“Don’t cut corners, when it comes to approval (bila melibatkan kelulusan) kawasan-kawasan tinggi seperti di Cameron Highlands.
-KESULTANAN PAHANG
HRH THE SULTAN OF PAHANG DECLARES NO MORE ILLEGAL LAND CLEARING IN CAMERON HIGHLANDS
CAMERON HIGHLANDS, September 11, 2025 – His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, has firmly declared that he does not wish to see any further illegal land clearing in the state, particularly in Cameron Highlands.
His Royal Highness expressed his hope that no more areas would be opened indiscriminately and that the natural beauty of the highlands would no longer be sacrificed by the uncontrolled cutting of hills and slopes.
“We must start with new procedures and protocols. I urge everyone to take this matter seriously. I have informed the State Government and the Exco to study this issue in depth and to make it a benchmark for future projects.
“We must not allow hills to be cut recklessly without proper regulation, and the project owners must be held accountable for the land and slopes they clear,” His Royal Highness decreed.
The Sultan of Pahang made the remarks when officiating the opening of the Sustainable Modern Agriculture Cameron Highlands (SMACH) Agropark – Phase 1 in Tringkap, here, today.
His Royal Highness also stressed that the effort was aimed at ensuring the people understood his aspirations, mission, and vision regarding agriculture and food security.
“This reflects my deep interest and commitment to Cameron Highlands in particular. This morning, I flew from Kuala Lumpur and crossed over Lembah Bertam. As I mentioned previously, Lembah Bertam is no longer what it used to be. It has now become a ‘valley of plastic’ due to the excessive use of plastic coverings, which no longer reflect the natural beauty of the valley as it once was.
“What’s done is done; we do not wish to point fingers. Everyone must take responsibility. With this project (SMACH), I will give my full attention, and I thank the State Government, the District and Land Office, as well as the District Council (Cameron Highlands) for successfully approving this project within two years,” His Royal Highness said.
His Royal Highness further emphasized that while the approval process might have taken longer, it was in accordance with the proper regulations.
“Don’t cut corners when it comes to approvals, especially in highland areas like Cameron Highlands. I do not want to see any future projects approved indiscriminately,” His Royal Highness stressed.
Meanwhile, His Royal Highness highlighted that the SMACH Agropark also focuses on six key aspects that should serve as guidelines for the future of agricultural development.
“These aspects include the use of modern technology such as smart farming; secondly, the practice of sustainable agriculture, organic fertilizers, and biological pest control; third, environmental monitoring, controlled agricultural zones, and regulation of land and hill clearing; fourth, training and education for farmers; fifth, efficient agricultural waste management; and sixth, strong support from both the state and federal governments to assist farmers,” His Royal Highness decreed. -KESULTANAN PAHANG
